Title IX challenged entrenched social values. As a result, it caused intense reactions. Over the decades, reactions have progressed from opposition to tolerance to gradual acceptance.

This year is Title IX’s 40th anniversary, and through each decade since its passage, the acceptance of Title IX has evolved. However, this social revolution is not yet done. It will still be a few more decades until the intentions of Title IX are fully realized.
